- Michael Dembrow for House District 45
- Sam Adams for Mayor
Michael and I are colleagues and friends. Unfortunately, I cannot vote for him because I live in a different district. I can tell you how much I respect and admire him. He’s probably the hardest-working person I know. Last summer he and I were both selected to travel to Senegal with other academics. When the Senegal seminar was canceled, we had to go with our second choices. Mine, as you know, was South Africa. Michael went to Ghana. He’d lived in Africa and founded the Cascade African Film Festival. I was disappointed that we couldn’t travel together. Primarily I know Michael from my time as the publicist for our faculty union, of which he is currently president. I’ve been amazed at his calm and rationale approach to negotiations. He has been a force for positive change at Portland Community College.
I’ve never met Sam Adams, but I’ve seen him about town no fewer than five times. I have been impressed by his service to Portland and Oregon. Sure, he’s made a few misteps, like the tram. But you have to admit, it’s pretty cool. He seems logical, organized, and concerned with the greater good. Sho Dozono, on the other hand . . . well, let me quote a commenter over at BikePortland
What is he getting done other than charging more for your plane ticket than if you had bought it directly through the airline?
Ooh. Ooh! How about not paying taxes to the city he intends to lead?

I mean — Obama. But man, if I wasn’t going to vote for you already . . . having the Decemberists play your rally would have won me over. I’m that shallow.
RSVP.

Now that I’m a Democrat, I feel compelled to make my first endorsement. Last night, John Kroger spoke at Michelle and Andy’s house, and I was very impressed. Then when I looked at his opponent’s attack ad, it only served to make me dislike Greg Macpherson.

Having grown up in Virginia, and lived a decade in the Carolinas, my body was programmed to expect heat by now. Long before May.
You’d think that I’d be adjusted to Portland weather after nearly eleven years. For the most part, I am. But by May, when it’s still raining every day, and cool, and worst of all: grey, I realize that I am still Southern.
Today it all changes. Today it is already sunny and I’m told it will be warm.
Tomorrow it will be hot. I need the heat and the sun.
I’m proud to not have A/C.
And sometimes proud to be A.C.

And now we know that the THREE can recognize the other Cylons, the Final Five. You do realize that if you unbox the THREE, all will be revealed? Every single IP, I mean — Cylon, will be known. Is Xena your warrior princess, or is she a turncoat THREE? Is she a slutty SIX?
All will be revealed.

K1 gave a reading and did a workshop today for Art Beat. I was pleased that K2 extended an invitation and that I had nothing to do with it. Only a few people from the library attended. That’s the problem of AB — someone has to keep things moving at the college.
K1 appeared in MM’s Intro to Poetry after and held a modified workshop. It was fun for me too. There were some great poems in the bunch. But why did I only recognize a few of the students? They should come to the library!
More Art Beat this week!

Is there anyone who can explain to me why my IP now shows my ISP as Google in Mountain View? Seems I’m not the only one.
Maybe someone from Google could tell me.

I’m conducting a test to see if someone is teflon. Can he endure? I doubt it. He gives and I forget. He doesn’t give and everybody knows, laughs uncomfortably, sits him down, shares the bad news. You are probably going to destroy yourself. It’s a sad way to go. They’ll want you and you out. And with them out, that means you, you, and you too. Best wishes on making the right decision. I wish I had more faith.
